Screaming at the sky. God of War: Chains of Olympus

It just so happens that God of War, the most striking series of games on the PSP, many will agree with. Well, of course, I completed both parts of the portable Kratos. Chains of Olympus is usually forgotten, but there is something in it.

Plot

Eternally screaming Kratos

Throughout the entire plot we have a given: Kratos is a killing machine, and it is clear that no matter what plot twist happens, he will still destroy everything living and dead in his path.

The simplest dialogues

It is very stupid to expect deep dialogues from this game; in fact, all the dialogues are a statement before the fact, so that it is clear exactly why Kratos waves his blades. The dialogues are so simple and unimportant that I don’t remember a single phrase from the game.

Notes

For those who want to delve a little deeper into something, the game has stands with a book; by interacting with it, you will receive a short text explanation about the game world. In the moment, of course, it seemed as if it was interesting and useful, but due to the fact that the game is not about the plot, the information immediately disappeared from memory.

Epic music and sound effects

Music plays a big role in the plot; it really makes you feel the world in which events take place, much better than dialogues and notes. Well, it’s obvious what they focused on, because it harmonizes much better with the genre than chatter. The most annoying thing is the clanging of the Klings during battles. Even after the battle, every now and then I want to press the strike button to hear it.

Epic locations

In addition to the good sound component, https://slotluxcasino.co.uk/games/ the game has incredibly beautiful locations, and thanks to the unique camera work, it really delivers throughout the entire playthrough, and this does not tell the story, but shows what, in my opinion, is more suitable for such a hurricane genre.

Cutscenes

At key moments of the game, cutscenes are included, sometimes they are built around dialogue, and sometimes around action, the only cutscene that I remember in the game is the one where Kratos yelled at the sky, and the sun fell from there, as for me this is the most powerful moment that was in the cutscene of the game, after which the whole world plunged into darkness.

Kratos’ naivety

The presentation is clear, but what is the plot itself about?? If without complex structures, then Kratos wanders around the world, and tries to at least come to an agreement with someone, hears a refusal in response, and the next step is the simple destruction of all living things, in some ways this reminded me of James Heller from Prototype 2, there, too, the GG was constantly cheated and deceived, thereby cruelly provoking violence. Obviously, this is a simple plot model that provides an explanation for the violent actions of the protagonist and does not require large expenditures. Moreover, this is not the main part of the series, but a portable one, so it would be foolish to expect some kind of cool plot, especially in a slasher.

Setting

Of course, the game is famous for its setting, it’s just great, but remembering games in the setting of Greek mythology, nothing comes to mind except God of war. This factor also clicked for me. I had a book with Greek myths, with pictures, of course, and when I saw how Kratos shreds all those powerful creatures left and right, I immediately wanted to play it. Without exaggeration, then it fascinated me very much, so the image of Kratos was imprinted in my memory forever.

Brutality and nudity

It’s also extremely cool that the game is brutal, and the entire screen turns red during battles, and Kratos is not shy about poking his blades wherever he wants. After all, the most important essence of the game, as for me, is that you can bleed powerful creatures who essentially created the whole world, but this did not give them the proper wisdom.

There is also nudity in the game, in statues, enemies, and even NPCs with whom you can interact. Naturally, this is as authentic as possible, because in the original source everything was like that.

Gameplay

Combat

Unbalanced QTE events during battle

In this game you won’t be able to memorize QTE events for each enemy, because the buttons you need to press are constantly changing, this is both bad and good, because you have to keep yourself on your toes, you don’t get caught up in general. Well, sometimes, to finish off some enemies, you can either activate a QTE, or finish what you started with a regular attack. Naturally, I didn’t choose a QTE, because I often failed it and received damage over and over again, or the enemy is simply too weak, and in order to finish him off, you need to twist the stick with great zeal, it’s obvious that it’s more profitable to attack him a couple of times than to break the gamepad once again.

Calling on opponents, using all sorts of things (demon spam)

After the battle, we are always rewarded with chests that replenish the mana bar, and it can only be spent on summoning a demon (Kratos’s ult, which deals damage to enemies and blocks all damage for the duration of the attack). I made sure to spend all my mana on this ult at the beginning of the battle, and only after this procedure did I deal with the rest of the enemies.

Well, in fact, you always click on your opponents with the most effective technique, there are many different attacks in the game that you don’t use at all, simply because they are ineffective. Many techniques focus on the fact that you will fight with one opponent, sometimes dodging, sometimes beautifully writing out a series of various blows, not allowing the enemy to even move. No, we are not given the opportunity to experiment, we are simply overwhelmed by the number of opponents, we can only use massive blows that mow down everyone and everything, you don’t even remember about other techniques. So the combat turned into a stupid clicking, simply because it’s ineffective any other way.

Freezing by Gorgons

The most annoying thing in the game is freezing or petrification from representatives of the local bestiary. The fact is that if you didn’t bother to dodge this stream in time: from the first hit of any enemy you’ll fly back to the loading screen. Insanely annoying, especially in contrast, because huge creatures do not cause you such inconvenience, and some small trash kills you with ease.

Not much with bosses

An additional reproach for the game is that there are very few bosses, and they are not particularly spectacular, you just spam them with blows after a successful dodge or parry, without getting the proper pleasure from destroying them, the reward is disproportionate to the efforts that you made. Yes, and by destroying crowds of the same type of enemies, the bosses had to dilute this whole routine, and bring something really interesting, in fact, we are also doing the same calling as before. Why am I so indignant? I just played the sequel, which was released in 2010, and the bosses there were really interesting and dynamic, not like here.

The most interesting boss in this game appears at the very beginning, then all sorts of trash comes at us, which does not inspire.
